Course Code and Title: BTC1889H Deep Learning in Health

Course Description: This is an advanced course in machine learning that is focused on the application of neural networks in a health context. The course assumes a strong foundation to create machine learning models in the coding language R. Basic foundations of neural networks are reviewed. Students will learn about the limitations and the appropriate use of neural networks by working on health and biological related data sets.

Qualifications: Experience required in teaching accredited courses at a recognized university. A PhD in statistical methods/biostatistics, and/or mathematics.  Advanced coding experience with “R” is essential.  Published research analyzing clinical trial data.  Experience working in a hospital environment.  

Duties: All normal duties related to the design, teaching and delivery of a University credit course including: Meeting with each of the student teams to guide/advise them on their presentations. Holding office hours as required. Marking/evaluating student presentations and written examination; recording student attendance; recording and submitting grades; and communicating with students on course related matters, for the Winter term.  Setting up R based tools for deep learning.

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1 – April 30, 2022. Classes to be held on Thursday evenings from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM EDT. The delivery method for this course is currently in-person lectures.  Please note that, in keeping with current circumstances, the course delivery method may change as determined by the Faculty or Department.

Salary: $15,500 (includes 4% vacation pay)
