Course Number and Title: BTC1878H: Health Data Visualisation with Tableau

Course Description: This course addresses the fundamental principles of information visualization, including a discussion of human visual perception, cognition and approaches to graphic representation. This course will include weekly lectures and seminars, required readings, student presentations and a term paper. Topics will include the accurate representation of numerical and statistical data, innovative approaches to visual representation and appropriate use of design elements for clarity and legibility. Practical application of course material will require students to develop visualizations that yield insight into complex biomedical subject matter and successfully communicate to a range of audiences.

Sessional Dates of Appointment: Specific duties will occur between January 9, 2023 and April 12th, 2023.  

Class Schedule: Lectures are held Wednesdays during business hours (9 AM - 12 PM), once weekly, in a 3-hour session. 

Salary: $15,500

Qualifications: Physical sciences, or engineering undergraduate training; Masters level training in either data management or data visualization; exposure to life sciences, especially medical devices, helpful; expertise in the use of the software Tableau is essential; R coding an asset.

Description of Duties: All normal duties related to the design, teaching and delivery of a University credit course including: selecting and inviting a series of speaker; coordinating speakers along with the student team presentations. Meeting with each of the student teams to guide/advise them on their presentations; holding office hours as required. Marking/evaluating student presentations and written examinations; recording student attendance; recording and submitting grades; and communicating with students on course related matters, for the Winter term.
