Course Number and Title: BTC1842H – Medical Device Reimbursement
Course description:
Medical device reimbursement for medical devices is critical for successful product commercialisation. This course discusses the regulatory and reimbursement landscape in Canada and presents a medical device reimbursement framework that can be applied when seeking medical device reimbursement. The framework focuses on the medical device and the reimbursement environment where payment is being sought. The course involves lectures and reimbursement challenges. Teams of students will conduct reimbursement assessments and develop and present reimbursement plans for real-world medical device reimbursement. At the conclusion of the course, students will have the knowledge and tools to build a medical device reimbursement plan.

Class Schedule: Specific dates to be determined in consultation with the MBiotech Program Office (NOTE: All courses at UofT Mississauga are expected to be delivered in-person in Summer 2024)
Sessional Dates of Appointment: May 21st - August 30 th, 2024
Salary: $17,267.74 (includes 4% vacation pay)
Minimum Qualifications: Industry experience required with medical device reimbursement. Should be familiar with the Ontario reimbursement for landscape for medical devices. Teaching experience in accredited courses at a recognized university for medical device reimbursement. A Master’s or higher degree in the life sciences and/or management is required. Experience with courses focused on biotechnology management and experience with entrepreneurship are highly desirable assets.
Preferred Qualifications: Same as minimum qualifications.
Description of Duties: All normal duties related to the design, teaching and delivery of a University credit course including: Selecting and inviting a series of speakers if deemed appropriate. The instructor will create a course that trains students in formulating a medical device reimbursement strategy for a medical device. Coordinating student team projects. Meeting with each of the student teams to guide/advise them on their projects. Holding office hours as required. Marking/evaluating; recording student attendance; recording and submitting grades; and communicating with students on course related matters.
