The Buddhism, Psychology & Mental Health Program at New College seeks a sessional lecturer from July 1, 2024 – August 31, 2024 to teach the following online course:

BPM332H1S Evaluates the relationship between Buddhist psychology and the practice of Western psychotherapy. Areas that will be studied include positive psychology, psychoanalysis, cognitive-behaviour therapy, mindfulness meditation and Jungian psychology. Comparisons with original Buddhist teachings and commentaries will be made.


Enrolment Estimate: 100 students

Estimated TA Support: 170 hours

Class Schedule: Mondays & Wednesdays 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Salary:                                        Sessional Lecturer I:  $9,457.90
Sessional Lecturer I (Long-term):  $9,930.79
Sessional Lecturer II:  $10,121.77
Sessional Lecturer II (Long-term):  $10,326.62
Sessional Lecturer III:  $10,362.76
Sessional Lecturer III (Long-term):  $10,570.02

Note:  This course will be delivered in an online synchronous format.  However, please note that, in keeping with current circumstances, the course delivery may change as determined by the Faculty or the Department.


Minimum Qualifications

Completed or nearly completed Ph.D. in an area related to Buddhist Studies, Mindfulness, and/or the intersections between Buddhism and Psychology and/or philosophical theories of mind. Teaching experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant teaching experience at the university level preferred.  Experience teaching online to large groups is an asset.


Responsibilities

Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; TA supervision and holding regular office hours.
