Reporting to the Team Lead of Windows Infrastructure Services, the Senior Systems Analyst provides support for IIS and tomcat web-based applications that run departmental and central services used by the campus community. The Senior SA is responsible for ensuring the availability, efficiency, and security of all Microsoft Windows based web applications, works with clients and other teams in preparation for the delivery of new services and develops and refines procedures and standards for reliable and sustainable operation of hosted services.

The duties and responsibilities include: performance and security monitoring of services to ensure efficient operation and to meet business and service requirements, working with other teams in troubleshooting and root cause analysis of complex issues affecting hundreds to tens of thousands of users; planning and occasionally self-managing projects and providing technical expertise for complex service deployments. The incumbent will participate in a 24-hour, 7-day on-call support rotation as well as scheduled off-hour maintenance. The Windows Infrastructure Services Team is responsible for administration of applications that support centrally managed campus-wide services and departmental administrative services. Job Duties

  • Administers a large number of (Windows) applications that run critical University services.
  • Define and apply  system and security patches aligned with best practices.
  • Administers web based and 3 tier applications running on (Windows) hosts.
  • Designs, creates, implements and refines scripts and tools to allow for effective automation, monitoring and maintenance of services.
  • Design, creates, implements and refines standards and implementation guidelines for web based applications and databases.
  • Design, creates, implements, refines and verifies implementation of security guidelines for web based applications and databases.
  • Develop and ensure that all systems adhere to the team’s technical guidelines and best practices.
  • Develops and tests disaster recovery plans for critical services to ensure business continuity.
  • Designs and develops templates and standard images for application and database servers to improve efficiency in provisioning of services and to ensure the team’s standards are maintained.
  • Works with other teams and clients to ensure services are configured and deployed properly.
  • Architects and recommends configurations for deployment of service components.
  • Leverage automation technologies to help with application deployment and configuration, as well as installation of tools and software.
  • Troubleshoots issues affecting users and performs root cause analysis. Some issues may involve multiple systems/teams and affect hundreds to tens of thousands users or computers. Makes suggestions for remediation. 
  • Works with vendors to develop and implement solutions to resolve problems.
  • Acts as the lead in the diagnosis and remediation process of complex problems that can affect campus-wide services.
  • Provides rotating on-call support.
  • Suggests developments and modifications to procedures and standards for reliable and sustainable operation of applications.
  • Researches new technologies and makes recommendations for purchases to enhance the efficiency of operations and quality of service.
  • Works with other teams and stakeholders of departments or faculties to identify requirements and to design architectures that meet their technological and business needs.
  • Analysis of service usage and user activity statistics to forecast for future growth and to enhance services.
  • Contributes to the development of long term technical strategies for the team.
  • Participates in creation of project scoping and costing.
  • Leads internal projects, draws members from within the team as needed, and works with other teams as required.
  • Provides technical consultation to stakeholders (service owners or decision makers from faculties or departments) in delivering new services, troubleshooting problems.
  • Document systems architecture, configurations, critical procedures and actions to be taken in troubleshooting problems.
  • Executes project work plans and suggests revisions as needed to support changing requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Computing Science or related field or equivalent Technical Diploma combined with relevant experience
  • Minimum 6 years of experiences working in large and complex IT environments 
  • Programming (scripting) experience with C, Perl, Python, PowerShell, VB scripting, SQL Queries
  • Proven experience with Microsoft SQL and IIS platforms
  • Proven experience administering large numbers of systems in an enterprise environment
  • Proven experience in networking, virtualization technology, system, web server and database security
  • Working experience in disaster recovery and business continuity planning
  • A positive attitude with creative thinking and willingness to learn new technologies
  • Strong technical, diagnostic and problem solving skills
  • Strong verbal, written communication, and time management skills
