Description: The Department of Nutritional Sciences invites applications for a Senior Research Associate appointment. The successful applicant must have the following qualifications:

  • PhD in Food Science or Nutrition
  • Minimum eight (8) years of post-graduate research experience in Nutrition, food science and food policy
  • A demonstrated record of writing external peer-reviewed research proposals.
  • A demonstrated record of writing manuscripts, publishing scientific papers, supervising graduate and undergraduate students, and presenting results of research locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead multi-sectorial research programs.
  • Experimental expertise in examining the relationship between food, food components/structure and human health.
  • Good working knowledge of statistics and statistical analysis software packages such as SAS
  • Comprehensive knowledge of research laboratory procedures and standards
  • Expertise with the conduct of human intervention trials
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional interpersonal skills


The Senior Research Associate (SRA) will lead ongoing and new research projects, focusing on the effects of foods and food ingredients on human health (e.g. postprandial glycemia, satiety and food intake regulation) and examining food consumption trends in Canada and their relationship with diet quality. The SRA will also be responsible for providing scientific leadership to the NSERC Program in Food Safety, Nutrition & Regulatory Affairs. This will include continued engagement with academic, government and private sector scientists and leadership of new research studies and workshops focused on issues affecting the Canadian food supply.

This is a continuing full-time position. Salary for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and University of Toronto policies.
