The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Office is focused on making SAIT a more equitable and inclusive place to work and study. The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), we are looking to hire a Senior EDI Specialist to join the team. This is a temporary position with the possibility of extension.
The Senior EDI Specialist will work apply their seasoned expertise to move the needle forward on making SAIT a more inclusive place to work and study. The role is responsible for taking an institution-wide approach to embedding EDI principles into SAIT’s culture, systems, policies and practices.
Particular focus for this role is placed on measuring institutional progress and driving a culture of evaluation, collaborating in cross-functional initiatives, and embedding change management within and beyond the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. The Senior EDI Specialist demonstrates inclusive leadership to meet peers where they are at and guide them on their respective learning journeys. 
The Role
    • Apply Specialized Expertise at a Strategic Level  
    • Conduct timely review of academic and non-academic policies and procedures to embed EDI principles in the infrastructure of the institution
    • Critically analyze disaggregated demographic data (student/employee) and design interventions to empower leaders to use demographics in their workforce and program planning 
    • Develop and implement programming to close achievement gaps for equity-deserving student and employee groups as needed
    • Stay current on best practices, promising approaches and relevant legislation to EDI in higher education 
    • Participate in vision planning for the department and oversee goals and objectives for team
    • Attend regular meetings with managers on behalf of the Director to determine priorities, review reporting progress, and identify significant issues or areas of concern that could jeopardize the achievement of goals

    • Institutional Reporting, Measurement and Evaluation 
    • Develop EDI key performance indicators in collaboration with other departments and units at SAIT to drive a shared accountability for EDI
    • Role model behavior and design programming to embed a culture of evaluation across the institution to build capacity for evidence-based decision making 
    • Assist in the preparation and dissemination of the EDI Annual Report 
    • Manage, socialize, and continuously improve the EDI Institutional Scorecard across key departments and units 

    • Cross-functional Collaboration & Change Management
    • Lead and participate in cross-functional committees and working groups related to EDI strategic priorities 
    • Work with business, peers and development groups to create long-term sustainable solutions and achieve expected institutional outcomes 
    • Work across departments and divisions to build relationships, understand opportunities and find creative solutions to challenges
    • Embed change management and EDI best practices into institutional culture, systems and practices to ensure long term success

Qualifications & Experience
    • Minimum
    • Undergraduate degree in an EDI-related discipline (Humanities, Sociology, Human Resources, Human Rights and Law, Education, etc)
    • 5-7 years of EDI-related experience 
    • Experience using an EDI lens to measure progress and modify policy and procedure 
    • Experience collecting and analyzing disaggregated demographic data 
    • Experience building strategy and relationships with internal stakeholders and external community partners 
    • Strong knowledge of change management principles 
    • Strong knowledge of EDI principles, frameworks and best practice in higher education 
    • Working knowledge of the Alberta Human Rights Act and the Employment Equity Act is an asset 

    • Preferred
    • Graduate degree in an EDI-related discipline (Humanities, Sociology, Human Resources, Human Rights and Law, Education, etc)
    • Canadian Certified Inclusion Practitioner (CCIP)
    • Change Management Certification 
    • Lived experience of inequity as a member of an equity-deserving group 
    • Strong project management skills with ability to set sub-goals and timelines 
    • Ability to hold space for those who have been impacted by inequities and those who want to learn more about equity, diversity and inclusion 
    • Some experience working in complex organizations or on complex projects, preferably in higher education, that require the ability to navigate large systems when implementing change 
    • Experience handling contentious matters with sensitivity, confidentiality and balance 
    • Ability to think critically, demonstrate tact and diplomacy, and work independently 

Job classification: SENIOR HUMAN RESOURCES ADVISOR - P2032
Salary range: $72,000 - $117,000
Paid Leave: 4 Weeks Vacation / 14 Flex Days per year
Hours Per Week: 37.5
