Position Summary:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, plans and executes laboratory projects and experiments. Performs technical tasks in the field of biology, chemistry, physiology, etc. Selects and modifies methodology. Analyses and interprets data. Acts as resource person, resolves problems and instructs others. Participates in manuscript preparation. Maintains equipment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
(i) Plans and executes laboratory projects and experiments within objectives set by supervisor. Performs literature searches, reviews, selects and modifies methodology.
(ii) Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks in fields such as chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, histology, toxicology, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, animal surgery, etc.
(iii) Compiles experimental and analytical data. Prepares reports. Analyses and discusses results and their interpretation with others. Participates in devising new methodology. Maintains records and files.
(iv) Acts as resource person, resolves problems and instructs others. Provides technical guidance and assistance concerning work methods, the use of equipment and techniques, and the analysis of results.
(v) Participates in the preparation of material for publication or presentation. Prepares graphs, tables, lists of references, and descriptions of procedures.
(vi) Ensures compliance with safety regulations in the use of equipment. Ensures proper storage, handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
(vii) Maintains equipment and performs minor repairs. Arranges for servicing.
(viii) Maintains inventory. Recommends and purchases equipment and material.
(ix) Performs accounting functions such as monitoring expenditures, verifying ledgers and resolving discrepancies. Forecasts costs of supplies, materials and equipment.
(x) Keeps abreast of new developments in the field to update skills and knowledge.
(xi) Uses a variety of equipment such as balances, pH meters, pipettors, laminar flow hoods, incubators, autoclaves, microscopes, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, chromatography apparatus, electrophoresis apparatus, electrophysiological recording apparatus, cryostats, microtomes, computers and audio-visual equipment.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
Experience in a genomics laboratory, preferably in a high throughput next generation sequencing environment. Previous experience in a regulated laboratory environment (SOP adherence, GLP, ISO, CLIA, etc.). Previous experience with automated lab workflows and automation, optimization thereof. Solid background in molecular biology with a specialization in current genomics protocols and the latest technologies. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work well both individually and as part of a team. Proficiency with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and MS Office software. Bilingualism: French and English, spoken and written.


Minimum Education and Experience:


Bachelor's Degree - Biology 2 Years Related Experience /
