The Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology and Society is a highly specialized research, policy and solutions initiative at the University of Toronto that draws on world-class research expertise across multiple academic divisions; regional, national, and international academic partners; and commercial and community organizations and translates research into concrete solutions and policy guidance. Your opportunity:

As Research Engagement Officer, you will play a critical role in supporting research operation activities, driven by our mission of ensuring that advanced technologies benefit everyone. Reporting to the Executive Director of the Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology & Society and supervised by the Associate Director, Research Engagement, the Research Engagement Officer works to ensure research activities remain on track and are well executed. You will maintain a comprehensive awareness of the portfolio of research interests across our community and of the program opportunities and services available to mobilize and amplify researchers affiliated with the Institute.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Promoting research initiatives to increase program visibility and reputation
  • Researching, analyzing and recommending grant opportunities
  • Supporting grant writing; Preparing written materials for research events
  • Liaising with agencies, collaborators, industry sponsors, faculty and other stakeholders regarding funding applications; Fostering positive relationships with researchers affiliated with the Institute and with project partners
  • Coordinating logistical details required for project implementation and program activities; Coordinating the preparation of research operations and project status reports
  • Providing detailed information to faculty and administrative staff on research programming and activities; Coordinating with communications staff to maintain information on a website and social media platforms; Generating reports and maintaining information in databases
  • Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming; Coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items
  • Collaborating on cost estimates; Tracking expenditures for operating budget

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three years relevant and recent experience performing a range of activities supporting a research environment such as grant writing, project management, event administration, and liaising with critical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience tracking project schedules and keeping stakeholders apprised of project progress.
  • Experience with the administration of research programming.
  • Relevant experience supporting grant writing and/or liaising with stakeholders during application process.
  • Experience managing registration and the logistics of virtual meetings/webinars using software such as Zoom and MS Teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to take initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to take full accountability for assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and databases.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time-management skills, with ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

USW Pay Band 11 -- $73,748 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $94,310. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
