This position has an end date of 12 months from hire. 

Working within the Autism Research Centre, the successful applicant will work under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator and Research Manager and will provide coordination and project management of multiple research studies.  The Research Coordinator will complete ethics and other regulatory applications, review, and conduct study activities specific to research protocols, recruit and consent research participants, and provide training, guidance and indirect supervision to a research assistant, and manage data entry. The Research Coordinator will liaise with research partners, regulatory authorities, clinical staff, and other sites as well as facilitate communication between team members, coordinate the day-to-day operations of studies, manage overall milestones and study targets to ensure timely recruitment and completion of studies. The incumbent will also conduct literature searches and reviews in support of the PI and projects.

Duties

PROJECT MANAGEMENT  (60%)

  • Conducts study procedures within the required timelines outlined in study protocols
  • Prepares consent forms, ethics submissions, renewals, amendments and close-out reports
  • Delivering and scoring standardized questionnaires and interviews for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders
  • Observing and recording behavior data to include in reports
  • Provide support for formatting and editing of grant applications, data management, data collection, data analysis, results dissemination, recording/organization of video footage, video coding, and maintenance of research centre materials and supplies
  • Data collection, entry, verification, analysis
  • Creates and present status reports and summaries as requested for projects
  • Liaise with Alberta Health Services, other research partners, University departments including the Research Ethics Board
  • Training and Indirect Supervision of Volunteers and Research Assistants
  • Keeps PI informed as to recruitment protocol, progress of the projects, and serious adverse events or safety issues in relevant studies
  • Helps prepare and edit grant applications as needed
  • Interacts with healthcare and research staff involved in the conduct of study procedures (e.g., clinical staff, research assistant)

STUDY COORDINATION  (40%)

  • Conducting literature search/reviews
  • Recruit and consent families into the studies
  • Development of marketing and recruitment strategies to support the research studies
  • Performs other phone contacts, and scheduling of research assessments, organizing data, inputting information, and preparation of ethics applications to support additional research studies.
  • Understands and adheres to study protocols and procedures
  • Identifying potential participants (e.g., through healthcare and administrative staff)
  • Screens potential participants as per inclusion/exclusion criteria and enrolls potential participants as per respective study requirements
  • Conducts activities to increase study awareness, organization, and accountability to ensure recruitment targets are met
  • Design and/or review study materials (e.g., data collection forms, recruitment flyers)
  • Responsible for data collection and management
  • Entering collected data into the appropriate electronic databases; retrieving additional data or correcting existing data; issuing and responding to data queries
  • Maintains study documents
  • Provides support to and coordinates with external site(s) participating in study procedures as necessary
  • Participating in any inside or outside study training activities

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor degree from an approved university training program is required. 
  • Two years of research-related experience, including knowledge of research design, data collection, data management, and data analysis. 
  • Two years of experience in research assessment with pediatric populations and experience in working with children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder is required. 
  • Recruitment and marketing experience including social media platforms is an asset. 
  • Experience with SPSS or other relevant statistical programs, RedCap, and RefWorks for literature reviews is an asset. 
  • Experience with Canadian Common CVs would also be an asset.   
  • Effective problem-solving skills including analytic thinking are required.  
  • Experience working with challenging clients is essential. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are required.
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Excel and Access is required.
  • Knowledge and experience with the University of Alberta’s REMO system is an asset. 
  • Works independently in the completion of tasks while functioning as a cooperative team member.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates well developed interpersonal and problem solving skills. 
  • Demonstrates excellent relations and consistently shows courtesy, caring, understanding, compassion and respect to families, visitors, co-workers and volunteers.
