Position Summary:
 

The Stem Cell Bioprocessing Laboratory led by Prof. Corinne Hoesli in the Department of Chemical Engineering is seeking a long-term research associate who will manage several ongoing projects, including industry projects, related to biomanufacturing, materials science and materials engineering.
Qualifications:

The candidate must have a PhD in the fields of materials science, biomaterials, biotechnology or related areas. The candidate must have extensive expertise in materials science and plasma surface engineering as demonstrated by several peer-reviewed journal publications. The candidate must have experience with surface characterization techniques such as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, profilometry, goniometry, etc. The candidate must also have experience culturing primary human cells derived from blood such as monocytes, as well as pluripotent stem cells. Experience differentiating pluripotent stem cells towards endoderm lineages is an asset. The candidate must have demonstrated experience managing large industry projects, including industry report writing and presentations to industry.

  • Plasma surface modification

  • Surface characterization (XPS, AFM, goniometry, etc)

  • Primary human cell culture

  • Pluripotent stem cell culture and differentiation

  • Immunofluorescence

  • Flow cytometry

  • Industrial report writing

  • Graduate student supervision

  • Project management
