Department of Chemistry (Professor Jean-Philip Lumb)


Position Summary:

  • Develop methodologies for oxidative dissolution using mechanochemistry.
  • Design experiments for kinetics studies of heterogeneous and homogenous mixtures.
  • Analysis, quantification and purification of samples, reactants and products in solid, liquid and gas phase.
  • Prepare and present weekly report to the PI, write scientific manuscript and patent applications drafts.
  • Guide and training graduate and undergraduate students.


Qualifications:

  • Have completed a PhD in inorganic and coordination chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science and engineering,  materials chemistry or closely related fields.
  • Enjoy working in a collaborative environment with diverse colleagues from different backgrounds have excellent oral and written communication skills (English) demonstrated by a strong track record of publications in high quality peer-reviewed journals and contributions to conferences.
  • Have experience in reactor design in mechanochemistry.
  • Have experience in precious metal purification using conventional methodologies and mechanochemistry.
  • Have a deep knowledge of inorganic and coordination chemistry and experience in the characterization of materials using GCMS-TCD, gas sensors, UV-vis, XPS, EPR, NMR, TGA, EA, ICP, PXRD and SCXRD
  • Molecular modeling characterization using DFT software.

   

Experience and education:

  • Have completed a MSc and PhD in solid-state inorganic and coordination chemistry with 5 years of postdoctoral experience in oxidative mechanochemistry, precious metals purifications, energy materials, and crystallography    techniques.
