Position Summary:
The Research Associate will work independently in the laboratory of Dr. Philippe Séguéla at the MNI.  The RA’s research work will be focused on the molecular physiology of ion channels (ASIC, P2X, TRP, Piezo) and their contribution to pathological excitability in pain circuits. The candidate will design experimental protocols, including, but not restricted to, strategies for the identification of selective antagonists and for the characterization of their functional properties when expressed in mammalian cell lines, primary neurons in culture or brain slices using patch clamp electrophysiological and cellular imaging approaches. The candidate will analyze experimental data, write reports in due time, make oral presentations, participate to lab meetings and journal clubs, review literature and contribute to the writing of manuscripts, patents and grant applications. When required, the candidate will be involved in training and oversight of technical staff as well as students.


Qualifications:

PhD degree in biological sciences or relevant field, and minimum of 5-year postdoctoral research experience in academic labs. Extensive knowledge of single-cell electrophysiology (MPC and APC on QPatch16X), calcium/voltage imaging, and mammalian cell biology techniques. Proven ability to transfer this knowledge to trainees and technical staff in the laboratory.

Other qualifying skills and abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English essential, French an asset).
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail and priority setting skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a complex, changing, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Good knowledge of Graphpad Prism or other main statistics software

Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 3 on a scale of 0-4.
