Position summary

Under the direction of the principal investigator, the lab manager will coordinate day-to-day operations of an academic laboratory that focuses on immune cell development and function. The candidate will help develop, monitor, and coordinate ongoing studies.

General Duties                                                                                                           

  • Submit new studies for ethics approval (and renewal) for projects that involve mice, human samples, and biohazardous materials

  • Manage mouse colony

  • Optimize and maintain organizational and operational efficiency

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations at the lab and in the use of equipment

  • Ensure proper storage of data; maintains records and files

  • Ensure appropriate inventory, purchases lab equipment/reagents, and maintains budget records

  • Become familiar with experimental techniques used in the lab; assist lab members with experiments

  • Act as resource person, resolve problems and instruct others

Education/Experience

  • PhD degree in life sciences; knowledge of immunology and hematopoiesis preferred

  • 5+ years of experience as a research assistant or similar

  • Demonstrated ability to design and carryout experiments

Other Qualifying Skills & Abilities

  • Significant experience with mouse handling, including intravenous and intraperitoneal injections, euthanization, tail clipping, ear tagging, and dissection

  • Ability to perform general immunology (e.g., flow cytometry, cell enrichment) and cell biology (e.g., cell transduction, microscopy) techniques; lab manager will be taught additional, specialized techniques

  • Experience using Matlab and R preferred

  • Able to communicate in both French and English (orally and written)
