Working for the Department/Faculty

The University of Alberta’s Housing for Health Team is recruiting Research Assistants to assist with data collection. Housing for Health is an initiative that aims to improve the health and well-being of community residents in Alberta and across Canada. The project focuses on the connection between “housing” and the neighbourhoods in which housing occurs (or, the “built environment”) and healthy living outcomes especially active living, healthy eating and social connections (https://www.ualberta.ca/department-of-medicine/divisions/preventive-medicine/housing-for-health/index.html ).

Duties

Research Assistants will complete tasks such as:

  • Preparing technology, paperwork, and materials for data collection.
  • Assisting in the recruitment of study participants including obtaining informed consent.
  • Communicating with participants virtually, by phone, and/or in person.
  • Administering surveys and activity monitors to older adults in person and virtually.
  • Measuring height and weight.
  • Organizing collected hardcopy and computer data, and data collection materials.
  • Entering data in a data entry software
  • Other data collection or administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal, attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • University training in quantitative research methods required.
  • Prior experience collecting survey, height, weight, or activity monitor data is an asset.
  • Must have an Advanced Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or be able to get it soon) and have regular use of a vehicle.
  • Travel to and overnight trips to nearby towns such as Whitecourt and Red Deer is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-secondary education in a health-related field. Bachelor's degree or higher preferred. 

Expected hourly rates range from $21.49-28.60 depending on education and experience. The exact hours assigned per week is flexible based on employee availability. Contract will be until March 31, 2023, however there is a possibility of extension beyond this date.
