Position Summary

The position will involve aid in recruitment of research study subjects including patients with stroke and controls that meet study inclusion and exclusion criteria; collection of a research blood sample; and initial processing of the collected blood samples. Information regarding recruited patients will be recorded in a study database.

Duties

  • Screen identified patients to enroll in the study based on study inclusion and exclusion criteria
  • Administer study questionnaires and compile responses; participate with other data-gathering
  • Obtain written informed consent
  • Collect research blood sample by phlebotomy, initial blood sample processing
  • Collect clinical and other study data through subject interview and clinical record review
  • Conduct study procedures within the required timelines outlined in the study protocol
  • Knowledge of AHS / UofA confidentiality regulations and Good Clinical Practice Guidelines
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Obtain information to complete the Clinical Research Form
  • Enter collected data into the study databases (REDCap)
  • Knowledge of REDCap, eClinician, NetCare, Microsoft Office is an asset
  • Ensure proper documentation for each subject recruited is filled out and securely stored

Minimum Qualifications


  • Post-secondary education of a Bachelor's degree with up to 18 months training to become functional in the role is required; undergraduate degree preferred Science, Genetics, Biochemistry or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Phlebotomy experience and certification preferred
  • Prior experience working with participants in a research setting
  • People skills to collaborate with others and work well in a team; ability to work independently when required
  • Good communication skills
