This is a part-time position with 0.5 FTE. The compensation range will be $1,994.89 CAD - $2,187.89 CAD monthly.

This offer is conditional upon successful completion of a Criminal Record Check.

This position is located within a health-care facility, therefore, the successful candidate will be required to provide verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by a provincial health mandate.

Job Summary
To assist with research activities related to a project investigating virtual reality (VR) cognitive training in clinical populations within the UBC Mood Disorders Clinic, Detwiller Pavilion and Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health. Works in the Mood Disorders Clinic (an outpatient hospital facility).
Organizational Status
The Research Assistant reports to the Principal Investigator (Dr. Trisha Chakrabarty), Mood Disorders Clinical Research Unit. The Research Assistant interacts with other research assistants at the Mood Disorders Clinical Research Unit, and with members of other departments within UBC Hospital (pharmacy and laboratory medicine), as necessary.
Work Performed

  • Administer VR cognitive training program to research participants (training will be provided);

  • Perform data entry

  • Transcribe patient data into study report forms; maintains study patient records in good order

  • Administer questionnaires to clinical research participants

  • Perform phone screening interviews to assess eligibility of potential clinical research participants

  • Score instruments (tallying scores, checking scores for accuracy) completed by patients and clinicians

  • Administer neuropsychological tests to clinical research participants (training can be provided);

  • Assists with patient flow through the clinic, as needed

  • Performs basic literature research, such as, searching for articles on-line or the library

  • Coordinate appointments for research participants

  • Filing, photocopying and general office work

  • Preparing PowerPoint presentations

  • Performs other related duties as required


Consequence of Error/Judgement
The person needs to be independently motivated, exceptionally organized, reliable and collaborative. The projects rely on maintaining a strong working relationship with healthcare professionals; therefore, professionalism is of the utmost importance. In addition, any errors in tracking all aspects of the project, data recording and entry, or breaches in confidentiality will harm the projects.
Supervision Received
Supervised by Dr. Trisha Chakrabarty. Weekly meetings held to cover significant issues, and daily supervision/guidance provided as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in clinical trials preferred

  • Experience with neuropsychological testing preferred

  • Technical background (ability to troubleshoot basic software, computer and network issues) preferred

  • Experience working with clinical populations, e.g. clinically depressed patients, in a compassionate and sensitive manner

  • Experience and familiarity with psychiatric questionnaires and interviews

  • Demonstrated experience with computers and computer software including MS Word for Windows, MS Excel, Power Point

  • Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, multi-tasking, and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
