Duties & Responsibilities:

Under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Issa, the Graduate Research Assistant is expected to:

  • Conduct literature reviews (including systematic, scoping or traditional, etc.) and maintain databases of relevant literature.

  • Develop research protocols.

  • Actively participate in the design of survey and data collection instruments including development, revision, and validation of the data collection tools.

  • Program the survey into the required software and test it.

  • Develop and/or update the protocol (and any needed amendments) and the application for the REB (McGill IRB) and other institutional research ethics boards (including consent forms and other related materials).

  • Conduct semi-structured qualitative interviews and/or focus groups.

  • Participate in all aspects of data collection including recruitment of clinicians.

  • Interact with all relevant stakeholders (clinicians, patients/families, pan-Canadian researchers, collaborators etc.)

  • Conduct statistical analysis using statistical packages/software (such as R, SPSS, NVivo, Lighthouse, etc) and analyze and interpret the results.

  • Contribute to the dissemination of results, including the writing of reports and scientific articles, and work with Dr Issa on the preparation for submission to journals.

  • Collaborate with pan-Canadian team of researchers (including at McGill, UBC, Toronto…)

  • Preparation of posters, slide decks for talks or other materials for various conferences.

  • Participate in the development of new methods for analysis or research as needed.

  • Perform other research activities as assigned by the research supervisor.

Other Qualifying Skills and Abilities:

  • Organized and having the ability to meet deadlines and balance multiple tasks and projects.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent time management skills. The RA should have demonstrated ability to work on different projects concurrently and to successfully manage deadlines.

  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English. Proficiency in French considered as an asset.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and strong capacity for teamwork.

  • The ability to work in a fast-changing environment and to learn new skills, software, and applications quickly and independently, and acquire new responsibilities.

  • Experience with copy-editing, reference formatting, and source checking is an asset.
