This position is situated in the Department of Bioengineering, Faculty of Engineering.
Position Summary:
Mahshid Lab in the Department of Bioengineering at McGill University is pioneering new generation of portable, automated nanosurface fluidic devices for translational applications in point-of-care diagnostics. With support of CIHR, the lab is developing a rapid molecular testing device for COVID-19 diagnosis in congregate settings. In close collaboration with hospital settings in Montreal (MUHC and Jewish Hospital), the lab employs state-of-the-art micro/nanofabrication, analytical techniques such as electrochemistry and optical microscopy and wet-lab protocols to develop and validate the testing devices.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Performing research and development to support projects in collaboration with academic and industrial partners in the area of electrochemical biosensors and nanosensors development
- Performing design and fabrication of fluidic devices and prototypes in the clean room facilities
- Assisting with the wet-lab protocols including cell culture, sample preparation and characterization
- Assisting with the installation of research new equipment, training others in its use and helping develop new applications.
- Reporting (progress and final) to academic partners
- Writing manuscripts and assisting in preparing grant applications
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Engineering. Hands-on experience in electroanalytical techniques . Expertise in design and fabrication of micro/nanofluidic devices . Hands on experience in cleanroom, micro/nanofabrication and biomedical instrumentation. Proficiency in writing manuscripts for high-impact journals. Skilled with simulation, layout/CAD (COMSOL, Solidworks etc), MatLab and Image analysis. Expertise in wet-lab protocols, bio-surface treatment, cell culture, PCR and fluorescent staining. Highly motivated with excellent team-work and self-management skills.
