The interfacial Science and Surface Engineering Lab (iSSELab) at Carleton University is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Research Assistant. The successful candidate will assist in conducting research in the areas of interfacial and surface science and microgravity science and technology applicable for space based application. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable research experience in a collaborative and innovative environment.

This position is a full-time, two-year appointment, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The first six months will be a probational period. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and the position may be filled prior to the posting end date.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist in designing payload developed for space application
• Conducting experiments related to surface science and space application
• Perform data analysis and assist in the interpretation of research findings
• Contribute to the development of research papers, reports, and presentations
• Collaborate with team members on research projects


Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
• Must have intermediate or advanced knowledge on CAD software (e.g. Solidworks, Autodesk inventor etc.)
• Have knowledge in any programming language (e.g. C, C++, python, Matlab etc.)
• Strong background in experimental research methods
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
• Having experience of publishing work in reputed journals will be an asset
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Experience with laboratory techniques related to interfacial science and surface engineering is an asset


Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
• Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering or Mechatronics or other relevant field
