Research Assistant Position in Radiofrequency Coil Design for High Field MRI

Position Summary:

The ‘Quantitative Microstructure Imaging Lab’ of the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) at McGill University is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to pursue Radiofrequency Coil (RF) design for human ultra-high field MR imaging. The applicant will conduct electromagnetic field simulation, printed circuit board design, radiofrequency circuit construction and human brain imaging with the MRI unit team to implement RF coil technology that is amenable to MRI signal reception and jointly allows dynamic B0 shimming of the human brain. Research will be conducted using the state of the art human 7 T Terra MRI system located at the Montreal Neurological Institute of McGill University. The RA will be expected to spearhead development and execution of experiments, as well as analyze research data. The RA will also prepare manuscripts documenting the research and assist with grant preparation.

The candidate will be supervised by Dr. David Rudko in the Department of Biomedical Engineering/Neurology and Neurosurgery at the MNI. The position is based at the McConnell Brain Imaging Centre (BIC) of the MNI. The BIC constitutes one of the world’s largest multimodal neuroimaging platforms, with more than 110 scientists. The facility generates 3,500 MRI research scans a year (1.5 T, 3 T, small-bore 7 T and the first 7 T human large-bore scanner in Canada). The BIC is also equipped with TMS, high-density EEG, high-resolution PET, micro-PET and real-time MEG/EEG modalities.

Montreal is consistently ranked among the most liveable cities in the world. It has a diverse, multicultural population and a friendly, vibrant atmosphere.
Qualifications:
• PhD in engineering, physics, math, neurosciences or a related field.
• Experience with RF circuit design and EM simulation.
• Familiarity with software development and mathematical programming skills (e.g. C, C++, MATLAB, Python).
• Strong writing/verbal communication skills in English.
