Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Assistant Director, and in collaboration with the READ Project Officer, the incumbent is responsible for identifying and leading the research and funding proposal preparation process by seeking out relevant opportunities affiliated with the priorities of the READ Initiative and taking the lead on drafting, revising and/or editing documents that are required to be submitted. This includes contributing to the collaboration between the READ and Industry Partnership Services (IPS) and/or Carleton Office for Research Initiatives and Services (CORIS) to ensure adherence to university protocols. Where feasible, the person in this role will draft letters of support and track intentions to collaborate with external partners.

The READ Research & Development Proposal Coordinator will contribute to developing and implementing the department’s fundraising strategy, in collaboration with designated members of the Department of University Advancement (DUA). It is essential that all materials are produced with the highest standards and convey consistent messaging, accuracy of information, quality of presentation and a common identity as they reflect both the READ Initiative and the University’s reputation to its internal and external stakeholders and funding agencies.


Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
• Proven grant writing and proof-reading skills. A proven record of producing clear, concise and convincing written communications for a variety of audiences.
• Proven experience writing proposals for funding/grants, where possible with a lens of accessibility, disability, inclusion.
• Possesses a thorough understanding of Carleton University and its processes, where possible, for writing and submitting grants and funding proposals. Experience in a post-secondary institution in a research portfolio would be an asset.
• Shows exemplary organizational, decision-making, analytical and verbal and written communication skills.
• Comprehensive knowledge of research and the ability to distinguish and identify funding opportunities for special programs, in particular those affiliated with accessibility for persons with disabilities.
• Demonstrates an exceptional level of professional flexibility.
• Can multi-task and work under significant time pressures, meet deadlines.
• Able to work with a minimal degree of supervision within a dedicated team framework.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Power Point and/or Carleton University’s systems utilized in CORIS.


Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
• Completion of an Honours degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Five years progressive experience in research or nonprofit grant seeking and/or business case proposal writing. This experience must include a minimum of 2 years of grant writing and development.
