The Reach Alliance is a global research and leadership initiative examining how critical interventions and innovations reach the hardly reached – including populations that are left behind due to geography and infrastructure, disability or refugee status, or because they are administratively invisible. The Reach Alliance recruits top students, equipping the next generation of leaders to produce actionable insights, addressing some of the world’s most pressing problems. Your opportunity:

Reporting to the Director, Research Alliance, the Program Officer will work closely with the Reach Alliance Program and Communications teams to support partnership building and relationship managementwith the Reach Alliance’s global cross-sector network. In this role, the Program Officer will collaborate with Reach Alliance staff, student researchers, faculty mentors, partner academic institutions and external stakeholders to implement and scale the Reach Alliance initiative.

This is a grant base term position that will end approximately in Feb 2025, with possiblity of renewal. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or co-curricular programs and activities
  • Coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
  • Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting
  • Collating and organizing data for various reports
  • Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials
  • Delivering presentations to promote programs, opportunities and/or initiatives
  • Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in health, business, global affairs or equivalent combination of experience and education. Master level degree in global health is an asset.
  • Minimum four years recent and relevant experience in planning and implementing programs and projects. Experience working in the non-profit sector is required.
  • Direct experience working on issues related to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and reaching hard to reach populations
  • Experience practicing and planning knowledge translation activities
  • Experience working with or coordinating across different stakeholder groups, including the private sector,public sector, civil society and universities
  • Experience working in larger project teams, including experience with project scope development and day to day project management
  • Experience creating and delivering presentations to promote programs and initiatives
  • Experience organizing or participating in a case competition
  • Experience planning, organizing and promoting events for programs and initiatives
  • Experience scheduling appointments, booking rooms, booking travel arrangements and accommodations
  • Experience making minor purchases, preparing expense, and reimbursements
  • Demonstrated understanding of the post-secondary environment, student program and research initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong organizational abilities, superb presentation skills and ability to effectively deal and engage with highly diverse and demanding communities of stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong skills in project management tools (eg. Notion and Smartsheets)
  • Strong working knowledge in MS Office, skilled in data entry and working with databases


Assets (Nonessential):

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of and commitment to the university's equity principles
  • Graphic design skills/ experience with Adobe and/or Canva
  • Experience in editing, reviewing and communicating academic work to the general public

USW Pay Band 12 -- $78,308 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $100,144. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
