About the MacEwan Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity

The MacEwan Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity (CSGD) serves as a dynamic interdisciplinary hub to foster community-engaged research, teaching, and an inclusive learning environment in support of sexual and gender minorities. The Centre provides leadership and strategic management of resources to support student and faculty engagement, professional development, knowledge mobilization, creative activities, and scholarly excellence.

The MacEwan Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity invites applications for a full-time program assistant for a six-month term. The successful candidate will serve as the first point of contact at the Centre and will ensure that students, visitors, and guests have a welcoming, inclusive, and positive experience. Position responsibilities include: welcoming and connecting visitors with appropriate resources; supporting daily Centre operations; ensuring successful Centre events by coordinating the pertinent details, including registration, functional supports, and following up as needed; and coordinating volunteer opportunities, including recruitment, screening, communication, and appreciation.

This is a six-month full-time non-recurring term.


Skills

The successful candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:

  • Excellent and well-demonstrated communication skills (verbal, written, interpersonal) and experience with marketing and social media

  • Strong and well-demonstrated organizational skills

  • Interest in diversity, equity, and human rights (with focus on sexual and gender diversity)

  • Active interest in social innovation and aptitude for technology

  • Ability to complete all work in an accurate and thorough manner, while paying keen attention to detail

  • Demonstrated experience in problem solving and decision making

  • Self-directed individual who can work independently, be proactive, and take initiative when necessary

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with situations in a professional, service- oriented manner

  • Motivated, energetic, and able to work in a stressful, fast-paced environment with competing priorities

  • Experience and aptitude with Microsoft Word and Excel and other office and event management software

  • Demonstrated ability in learning and working with new software

  • Energetic and works well in a team setting


Position Requirements

To be successful in this role, candidates must demonstrate the following:

  • A culture of collaboration does not happen without a conscious effort, so we are looking for a great connector, facilitator, and someone who is directly engaged in working with 2SLGBTQ+ communities

  • Demonstrate empathy by helping to identify appropriate supports for Centre users and connecting them to the right on and off campus services

  • A good working knowledge of intersectionality and the ability to understand how it relates to the endeavors of the Centre

  • Aptitude to thrive in dynamic environments, wherein individual and community successes are celebrated

  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends to support programing and special events


Qualifications
  • Post-secondary diploma in a related field is preferred or equivalent life experience

  • One to two years’ experience in a dynamic and collaborative service environment

  • Experience with event management and volunteer coordination would be assets
