Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Associate Director Administration and the Director of the AEPMU, the incumbent will participate in ensuring the smooth functioning of the unit's administration and academic activities. He/she will participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures of the AEPMU. This includes but is not limited to continuing medical education & continuing professional development Pain Medicine programs, student affairs activities (including fellowship programs, pain psychology internships, short-term trainee program, observership program), and curriculum development in Pain Medicine education both within and outside McGill and the MUHC.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participate in ensuring the smooth functioning of the unit. Collect and present information relating to area of responsibility and recommend procedural changes to improve effective functioning.
  • Keep up to date with and adhere to academic and administrative processes.  Act as contact person for the unit regarding academic and administrative processes.
  • Collaborate with supervisor and other stakeholders in establishing work priorities and provide information on diverse and complex issues. Follow-up on and ensure appropriate implementation of decisions made by supervisor.
  • Address overlaps and identify gaps in the Pain Medicine undergraduate and graduate curriculum. Consult relevant documentation and liaise with appropriate internal and external resources persons to resolve overlaps and gaps in curriculum.
  • Provide student affairs support including but not limited to recruitment, admissions, enrollment, resident / student rotations / electives, trainee learning trajectories in a multidisciplinary setting, and implementation of both formal and informal evaluations.
  • Produce various documents such as reports, memos, publicity brochures, departmental handbooks, annual reports, and presentations.
  • Drive the internal and external communications strategy including newsletters, maintaining and updating website and social media presence.
  • Participate in the development of new Pain Medicine programs for continuing medical education and continuing professional development including but not limited to lecture series, e-consult, Extensions for Community Healthcare Outcomes, and rounds.
  • Understand and maintain accreditation processes with McGill University, The Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians, The College of Family Physicians of Canada, and the Collège des Médecins de Québec as well as accreditation processes for other disciplines at the unit including but not limited to l’Ordre des Psychologues du Québec and l’Ordre Professionel de la Physiothérapie du Québec.
  • Manage budgets and track finances for special projects.
  • Coordinate arrangements for events such as symposia and conferences.
  • Support the arrangement of travel for academic purposes as required.
  • Maintain the educational and academic calendar of the unit.


Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

  • College diploma (DEC);
  • A minimum of 3 years’ related experience;
  • Work experience in clinical research would be a strong asset;
  • Excellent command of English and French, both spoken and written;
  • Computer literate (knowledge and working skills with Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, experience with databases, Pubmed and Endnote would be an asset);
  • High level of attention to detail;
  • Ability to prioritize and to multitask;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a team;
  • Ability to exercise tact, discretion, and confidentiality;
  • Experience with drafting proposals for funding opportunities and experience with events and project management would both be an asset.

DEC III 3 Years Related Experience /

Annual Salary:

(MPEX Grade 03) $51,190.00 - $76,770.00
