Primary Care and Preventative Medicine Instructor

Applications are invited from qualified individuals for a 2-year term instructor position (with potential for renewal) in Primary care and Preventative medicine in the department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences beginning March 1, 2023 or by negotiation.  The successful applicant must have a passion for veterinary medicine and a keen interest in coaching veterinary students for success in veterinary practice.  For 75% of the time, this individual will deliver clinical veterinary care within the Primary Care and Preventative Care service.  This position will have a 75% clinical commitment and 25% formal teaching commitment.  They will contribute to building of a healthy and diverse caseload for clinical learning.  This veterinarian will ensure the development of a positive and vibrant team-based clinical service with excellence in client service.  They will coach veterinary students as they develop competence and confidence in the key elements of the framework for competency based veterinary education.  They will work to incorporate recent veterinary medical evidence-based advances and enhance the skills of undergraduates and technical staff.  They must be a strong team player and be able to communicate and collaborate professionally with people of diverse backgrounds.


The WCVM is western Canada’s regional college of veterinary medicine.  It is part of a comprehensive academic health sciences group on the university campus, with access to facilities including the Canadian Light Source and the Biomedical Beamline and Saskatchewan Centre for Cyclotron Sciences.  For further information, please visit https://wcvm.usask.ca   While not required for the position, extensive opportunities for collaborative research exist within WCVM and with the University (College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy and Nutrition, College of Dentistry, and College of Kinesiology), as well as the Saskatoon Cancer Centre for the interested candidate. 

The Veterinary Medical Centre at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine is currently a state-of-the-art facility AVMA and AAHA accredited primary care hospital and referral centre serving western Canada.   Specialty services and undergraduate and graduate training are offered in anesthesia, dentistry, dermatology, exotics and wildlife, internal medicine, medical imaging, nutrition, oncology, ophthalmology, radiation oncology and surgery.  Advanced imaging modalities such as PET-CT, MRI, CT, linear accelerator, fluoroscopy, and nuclear scintigraphy are available on site. We are seeking candidates who have a DVM degree or its equivalent and are eligible for general licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Saskatchewan.  The successful candidate must have a minimum of two years experience in small animal general practice.   An advanced degree and/or advanced training are desirable

Salary bands for this position for the 2023-24 academic year are under negotiation but currently are as follows:

Clinical Instructor: $66,355 – 106,668
