Carleton’s Board of Governors has begun the recruitment of the university’s 17th President and Vice-Chancellor. Building upon the progress made in Carleton’s Strategic Integrated Plan, the President, with the support of an exceptional and dedicated team of talented faculty, administrative, and student leaders, will continue Carleton’s pursuit of world-class research, academic excellence, teaching, and learning. This individual will also champion the university’s reputation and continued growth, locally, provincially, nationally, and internationally, and ensure the university maintains its leadership and progress on sustainability, community engagement, Indigenous initiatives, accessibility, equity, diversity, and inclusion. The President will nurture a collegial atmosphere that promotes collaboration, transparency, and integrity. Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Vice-President, Students and Enrolment, the Associate Vice President (AVP), Recreation and Athletics provides leadership, direction, and operational oversight to Carleton University’s department of Recreation and Athletics, including the capital development and maintenance of the recreation facilities; the development and delivery of the fitness, recreation and high performance/varsity programs that align and support the University’s Strategic Integrated Plan. The AVP is also responsible for ensuring that key revenue-generating activities are developed and executed in a manner that meets the needs of both students and the broader community. Programming must be operated profitably in order to contribute to the overall financial stability of the organization.

As the ideal candidate you are a solutions-oriented leader, with demonstrated experience developing and implementing departmental plans that align with overall organizational goals. You understand and have experience navigating complex multi-stakeholder environments (eg. City of Ottawa, uOttawa, OSEG, university donors and alumni, etc.), both within and outside of your organization. Peers and colleagues would describe you as an authentic, approachable, honest and engaged leader and problem solver with a demonstrated ability to effectively lead change in an ever-changing environment. You excel in collegial, collaborative, yet fast paced environments and understand how to leverage sponsorship, grants, fundraising, community programming and facility use to generate revenue and ensure financial stability of the department. Throughout your career, you have modeled and fostered equity, diversity, accessibility, inclusion, Indigeneity, reconciliation, and decolonization. Your experience and/or knowledge of Canadian university sport and recreation as well as community programming in support of revenue generation would be considered a strong asset
