Under the direction of the Program Officer of the MScPH (Masters of Science in Public  Health) program in the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health, the Practicum Administrator will be responsible for managing all aspects of the practicum placements for graduate students in the MScPH program, including organizing recruitment efforts of practicum placements, assisting students in securing placements, preparing contracts for placement sites as needed, , establishing and maintaining a comprehensive database to track practicum opportunities and creating tools to measure students’ practica status, achievements and progress. The position plays an integral role in the lifecycle of the MScPH student and in the building of existing and future partnerships.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform and organize activities to support the daily operations of the unit by ensuring that administrative services are carried out in accordance with established goals and objectives.

  • Implement administrative procedures or systems that are moderately complex in support of the faculty, department or unit’s operations and ensure activities meet or exceed established quality requirements.

  • Compile statistics and data for inclusion in reports. Update documents and reports, either in print or on the website.

  • Provide support for student affairs and academic administrative activities.

  • Establish and foster effective working relationships by identifying needs and providing support in the delivery of services.

  • Assess and resolve administrative problems. When appropriate, inform supervisor and formulate recommendations.

  • Attend meetings.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Masters degree in a related field an asset. Experience and/or knowledge of public health or health systems an asset. Client-focused, with a high level of tact, confidentiality, diplomacy, professionalism, and a demonstrated ability to build appropriate rapport and constructive and effective relationships. Ability to advance the department’s commitment to teaching and outreach with relevant programs, goals and activities. Ability to be innovative and implement ideas in a practical and timely manner. Ability to effectively listen and assist staff and students. Must have strong organizational, priority-setting and problem-solving skills. Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. Demonstrated sound judgement and decision-making abilities. Ability to track, analyze, and synthesize a high volume of information and to handle multiple projects and meet strict deadlines. Demonstrated ability to work in a PC environment using databases, spreadsheets, presentation software, web applications and social media. Knowledge of Banner, Minerva and Drupal. Fluently bilingual (English and French, spoken and written). Testing will be administered

Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 on a scale of 0-4.
