Early detection of invasive alien macrophytes with environmental DNA
The Gregory-Eaves and Iversen labs (@ McGill University ) are seeking a post- doctoral fellow to join our exciting project focused on developing and applying early detection tools using eDNA based methods for detecting invasive alien macrophytes in Quebec. This effort is a collaboration with Dr. Ioannis Ragoussis of the McGill Genome Centre as well as Vani Mohit and Marie-Eve Tousignant at the Ministère de l'Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs (MELCCFP).

The post-doctoral fellow will have an opportunity to collaborate with trainees in our groups and conduct both field and lab work. They will also have the opportunity to join two strategic research network that will open the door to many other resources and networking opportunities within the province: 1) the Interuniversity Group in Limnology (GRIL ) and the 2) the Quebec Centre for Biodiversity Studies (QCBS ).

TERM Initial appointment is for 1 year, with a possibility of extension for a second year based on performance and funding.
START DATE The position is scheduled to start May 15, 2024.
QUALIFICATIONS Applicants should hold a PhD in environmental genetics or a related field. The post-doctoral fellow should have background in eDNA techniques as well as proficiency in bioinformatics. Candidates who are comfortable speaking both English and French as well as have field-work experience will be preferred.
WORK LOCATION The work will be based at McGill University Montreal, Quebec, Canada, but the candidate would make regular trips to the MELCCFP office in Quebec City.

Les laboratoires Gregory-Eaves and Iversen labs (@ Université McGill ) sont à la recherche d'un boursier postdoctoral pour se joindre à notre projet innovant axé sur le développement et l'application d'outils de détection précoce utilisant des méthodes basées sur l'ADNe pour la détection des macrophytes exotiques envahissants au Québec. Cette initiative de recherche découle d’une collaboration avec le Dr. Ioannis Ragoussis du Centre de génome McGill ainsi que Vani Mohit et Marie-Eve Tousignant du ministère de l'Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs (MELCCFP).
Le boursier postdoctoral aura l'occasion de collaborer avec des stagiaires de nos groupes et de mener des travaux sur le terrain et en laboratoire. Ils auront également l'opportunité de rejoindre deux réseaux de recherche stratégique qui leur ouvriront la porte à de nombreuses autres ressources et opportunités de réseautage au sein de la province : 1) le Groupe interuniversitaire en limnologie (GRIL ) et le 2) le Centre québécois d'études sur la biodiversité (CSBQ ).
DURÉE La nomination initiale est d’une durée d’un an, avec possibilité de prolongation pour une deuxième année en fonction des performances et du financement.
DATE DE DÉBUT Le titulaire du poste commencera le 15 mai 2024.
QUALIFICATIONS Les candidats doivent être titulaires d'un doctorat en génétique environnementale ou dans un domaine connexe. Le boursier postdoctoral doit être préalablement formé au niveau des techniques d’ADNe et avoir une maîtrise de la bioinformatique. Les candidats qui parlent couramment l’anglais et le français et qui possèdent une expérience de travail sur le terrain seront privilégiés.
LIEU DE TRAVAIL Le travail sera basé à l'Université McGill de Montréal, Québec, Canada, mais le candidat effectuerait des déplacements réguliers au bureau du MELCCFP à Québec.
