Position Summary:

Postdoctoral Fellowship Opportunity

McGill Dept. of Equity, Ethics and Policy / Studies of Translation, Ethics, and Medicine (STREAM) is inviting applications for postdoctoral research fellow (PDF) for highly interdisciplinary research. Appropriate backgrounds include the social sciences, philosophy, decision sciences or epidemiology.* Priority will be given to candidates with demonstrated knowledge of drug trials and a penchant for interdisciplinary work.

Projects will use various approaches to better understand how risks and benefits for first in human trials are/should be evaluated. Another project aims at helping patients evaluate complicated risk/benefit trade-offs when entering trials. This work will be conducted in close collaboration with medical scientists.

The PDF will work under the supervision of Jonathan Kimmelman. The PDF is encouraged to develop their own research within the scope of the project, and to publish both team and independently authored manuscripts.

a cover letter describing research interests, a CV that includes their current address and citizenship status* a writing sample, the contact information for 3 references. a copy of their PhD that states the date of its conferral**.  Applicants who do not have a completed Ph.D. at the time of application must include a letter from their Department Chair specifying the date of their dissertation defense.

The position will begin on 01-06-2023 and end on 01-06-2024. [There is a possibility of renewal dependent on performance and funding availability.]

Qualified individuals will have completed a PhD in philosophy, sociology, psychology, epidemiology / biostatistics, decision-science, an MD, or a life science.

The fellow will be registered as a postdoctoral fellow at McGill University, under the supervision of Prof. Jonathan Kimmelman. Salary is 45,000 but negotiable based on degree or experience

Postdoctoral positons are full-time employment positions. The candidate may not hold another position of employment, or academic affiliation of any kind with another institution, and must either be resident in Quebec, or relocate to Quebec, in order to be eligible. *

Must have PhD in related field, or have completed all requirements for PhD in related field.
