RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position summary
The position involves conducting a research project in the area of cellular signaling as it relates to cell biology, and therapy for fibrosis and/or cancer. While the general research direction and hypothesis/objectives will be given by the principal investigator in line with the research program of the laboratory, the candidate is expected to contribute in a major way conceptually, technically and experimentally to the productivity of the research group.

General Duties
General duties will involve working with the principal investigator on development of the research program in the field of cellular signaling in fibrosis and cancer. This will include:
• Hands-on experimentation and generation of high quality data,
• Following the literature, writing manuscripts and contributing to funding applications,
• Training of students or staff and corresponding with collaborators,
• Giving national and international presentations at scientific meetings.


Education / Experience

• Doctoral degree (PhD),
• Minimum 2 years of documented research experience in the field of cellular signaling, including first author publications in peer reviewed journals,
• A background in protein and/or peptide chemistry is an asset,
• Proven expertise in the field of cell signaling in general, and in the field of fibrosis and/or cancer,
• Proficiency with standard biological assays and techniques in cell biology and molecular biology, expertise in analysis of data obtained from proteomics, genomics, RNA and miRNA profiling,
• Ability to work on independent research projects, coordinate efforts with junior staff and research trainees, and with collaborators,
• Track record indicating ability to conduct scholarly work, prepare publications and contribute to grant applications,
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English.


Additional information

Status: Temporary, Full-time, 1 term renewable (35-hour workweek)
Pay Scale: A Postdoctoral fellow is a full-time student currently enrolled in a Canadian University program. The individual must have recently been awarded (within 5 years) a PhD or equivalent. He/she will receive a stipend or a bursary from a professor’s grant for research activities that will be performed on a full-time basis. The appointment must be preparatory for an academic and(or) research career. All benefits are administered by the University under which they are registered.
Work Shift: From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays to Fridays
