The expected pay range for this position is $5,000 - $6,666.66 per month.


Description:

The Therapeutics Initiative at the University of British Columbia seeks a full-time (1.0 FTE) postdoctoral fellow for an initial appointment of 1 year with the possibility of renewal. The postdoctoral fellow will conduct research in the areas of Implementation Science and be expected to lead stakeholder engagement related to healthcare systems change management. The fellow will also need experience in qualitative research and mixed-methods for evaluation of Implementation in healthcare systems. The fellow will work on projects related to reducing low-value laboratory testing in hospitals in British Columbia and on projects related to deprescribing of potentially unnecessary medications.

The postdoctoral fellow will report to Drs. Anshula Ambasta and Wade Thompson, Assistant Professors, and Dr. Colin Dormuth, Associate Professor, Dept of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics, and will work closely with other faculty members, project managers, and staff. This is a funded postdoctoral position although we welcome applications from fellows who have secured funding prior to applying.

Drs. Ambasta, Dormuth, and Thompson are members of the Therapeutics Initiative (https://www.ti.ubc.ca/ ), which provides expert independent evidence on healthcare interventions. Dr. Thompson also co-leads https://deprescribing.org .

The primary activities of the Postdoctoral Research Fellow include:
• Leading stakeholder engagement with healthcare professionals in hospitals across BC along with community and public partners
• Leading Implementation of an intervention bundle across hospitals to reduce laboratory test over-use.

• Leading and/or assisting with qualitative research (interviews, data analysis)

• Writing research abstracts, summary reports, and scientific articles, and submitting articles to peer-reviewed journals;
• Presenting study results to the scientific community at national and international conferences;
• Identifying and pursuing secondary research projects and research funding; and
• Collaborating with other research teams.

Qualifications:
The qualified candidate will have a doctorate degree in a relevant discipline (i.e., Epidemiology, Public Health or a related field as long as the candidate has a strong experience in Implementation Science). Minimum of four years related experience with a strong research publication record. We are looking for highly motivated individuals with a desire to develop an independent research agenda, and with the following skills:
• Demonstrated skills in Implementation Science and leading health systems change
• Demonstrated skills in qualitative research.

• Experience with stakeholder engagement and patient/public involvement in research
• Education/training and experience in qualitative research
• Excellent communication skills, including strong writing, research, and interpersonal skills;
• High-level conceptual, analytical, and critical appraisal skills; and
• Demonstrated initiative and willingness to work closely with members of a research team.

Duration and Salary:
The start date will be negotiated with the successful candidates and will be for an initial appointment of 1 year. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
