The position is with the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta. Engineering at Alberta is top 5 Engineering school in Canada. The Faculty of Engineering is home to large-scale, long-term collaborative research programs, and is a leading participant in broad initiatives that draw expertise from across the University of Alberta campus and around the globe.

Position Summary

The position is for one-year collaborative project with oil sands industry on the conversion of real-field samples to value-added products via novel low-GHG emission approaches. The developed methodology and products will contribute to the circular economy and waste-to-value efforts.

Stipend: 43,000 CAD /year plus benefits as applied under UofA postdoctoral program office.

Duties

  • Development of conversion methods of oil sands materials to value-added products.
  • Synthesis and characterization of the proposed products.
  • Development of associated SOP and hazard assessments. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.Sc. degree in chemistry (organic)
  • Ph.D. degree in chemistry or chemical/materials engineering (obtained within the past 4 years to qualify for the PDF requirement)
  • Experience with oil sands, bitumen or model compounds
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hand-on experience with characterization techniques of solid materials
