Position Details
One immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow is available in the NSERC-funded RNA Innovation Program.

This NSERC Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) funded program is a unique partnership between the University of Lethbridge, University of Manitoba, and Université de Sherbrooke, and industry collaborators, providing trainees with an enhanced learning experience during their postdoctoral studies. The NSERC CREATE RNA Innovation program aims to produce highly qualified personnel with skills in advanced RNA research, scientific leadership, and industry experience.

The major advantage of RNA Innovation is access to industry collaborations. Each trainee cohort works together with an industry partner to solve an R&D problem as part of the “deepYellow Challenge”. Together the trainees will learn to apply their research training, work as a team, and develop a final product. During these challenges, the postdoctoral fellow will be tasked with acting as a team leader, and therefore gain valuable experience in mentorship, problem solving, project management, and product development.

The postdoctoral fellow will also receive funding for on-site industry training and project development through the Twinning Program. Each participant in this program is matched with a specific 4-5 month internship, where they will receive mentorship and a personalized networking experience. In addition to academic and research skills, postdoctoral fellow trainees in the RNA Innovation Program develop skills in management, leadership, communication, teaching, integrity and ethics through complementary workshops and courses.

On completion of the RNA Innovation program, postdoctoral fellows are uniquely trained, “job-ready” with knowledge of applied and basic research, and possess a diverse set of leadership skills. This multidisciplinary background will make them ideally suited to careers in a multitude of biotechnology fields.

Postdoctoral fellows receive $30,000/year for two years from the program, as well as a minimum Research Assistantship from their supervisor and benefits as per university agreements.

Postdoctoral trainees must have completed their doctoral degree within the last five years to be eligible to participate in a CREATE initiative. The five-year window will be adjusted to take into account instances where a trainee has had an eligible delay, such as maternity, parental, or personal illness leave.

This opportunity is open to Canadian and international applicants. Priority will be given to applicants who are able to start in March 2024 and will be able to provide direct leadership in the 2024 deepYellow challenge.

The RNA Innovation program is committed to creating an inclusive, diverse, and representative team that is reflective of the community we serve.
