The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position summary
We are looking for a PhD-level epidemiologist to join a new interdisciplinary research venture investigating the intersections of genetic variants and environmental exposures on adverse pregnancy outcomes and the developmental origins of childhood- and adult-onset disease. The research program involves multiple research activities spanning basic, clinical and epidemiological sciences and the team includes experts from various industries including academia, hospitals, government agencies and environmental task forces. The selected candidate will be responsible for designing and directing all epidemiological analyses, including the identification of suitable large cohort databases with genomic and environmental data.

General Duties
• Plan, design and lead all epidemiological analyses related to the research program
• Identification of specific computational approaches to integrate genetic, environmental and phenotypic data
• Optimize, troubleshoot and adapt methodologies for gene-environment interactions
• Identify cohorts and biobanks relevant to the project and prepare proposals to apply for data access
• Use and management of data from large cohort databases in Canada and internationally
• Apply for and maintain research ethics approval for epidemiological studies
•Contribute to figures, publications and grant applications
• Supervise and mentor epidemiology students who join the research program


Education / Experience

• PhD in Epidemiology
• Expertise in genetic epidemiology
• Expertise in environmental toxicology/science
• Expertise in statistical analyses and bioinformatics
• Strong quantitative skills and concrete knowledge of analytic methods to study gene-environmental interactions.
• Experience working with large databases and analyzing whole-genome and environmental data.
• Able to work independently
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong problem solving skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others
• Excellent communication skills both written and ability to function within a diverse team
• Motivated, resourceful and curious
• Experience with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and SPSS or other statistical software


Additional information

Status:Full time, 1 year renewable
Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: day time
