Position Description

Area: Biomimetic vasculature design and modelling 

Duration: 12 months  

Start Date: October 2022

Salary: $ 50,000 CAD per year, plus University of Calgary Plan C Benefits

The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in the areas of vasculature design modeling and simulation for bioprinting.

Job Description:

Two positions are available in the Advanced Biofabrication Laboratory (“ABL”) at the University of Calgary for postdoctoral researchers to join an interdisciplinary research team developing a novel framework to design a biomimetic vasculature for kidney organ/tissue models. The designed vascular scaffolds are targeted towards bioprinting complex scaffolds using various bioinks and bioprinting systems. The work will also involve large medical image datasets processing to extract tissue/organ information, scripting, mass transport modeling and data analysis.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent in Engineering or a related field with a focus in one or more areas, biomedical image processing, biofabrication, scaffold modeling, computational mass transport modeling etc.
  • Familiarity or background knowledge in mass transport and flow in porous material modeling, processing/analyzing large datasets and background knowledge of vasculature and angiogenesis is an asset.  
  • The applicant should be motivated and possess excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • The successful candidates will have a proven record of success and be able to conduct research independently as well as be part of a team.
