The Postdoctoral Fellow will be a member of iMPACTS, a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Partnership Grant that is funded to address sexual violence on university campuses across Canada and internationally. iMPACTS is a multi-sector, multi-disciplinary research project involving highly engaged partners from academic institutions, community organizations, art galleries, and theatre production houses. Dr. Shaheen Shariff is the Project Director of iMPACTS. Dr. Shariff is a James McGill Professor whose work is grounded in the intersection of law and education, with a focus on human rights and constitutional issues, diversity, legal pluralism, and civil society. 


On iMPACTS, Dr. Shariff leads a team of about 20 undergraduate and graduate research assistants who engage in a variety of research projects within the field of sexual violence. Some of the current research projects include, for example: international students’ experiences of sexual violence and the barriers they encounter when reporting; workplace sexual harassment and legal responses to the problem; cyberbullying and technology-facilitated sexual violence; student activism and universities’ responses; policy gaps and policy development in secondary schools and higher education; sexual violence against vulnerable populations, like people with disabilities, racialized people, and LGBTQ+ people. 

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities: 
The Postdoctoral Fellow will be empowered to develop and implement research projects related to sexual violence. Through this position, the Fellow will collaborate with high-profile academics from around the world and engage in critical scholarship within the field. Central to iMPACTS is the student mentorship committee, which the Fellow will lead. As such, the Fellow will supervise and mentor a team of undergraduate and graduate research assistants, and will help oversee their respective research projects. The Fellow is expected to present and publish findings from iMPACTS and seek out opportunities for knowledge mobilization. The Fellow should also be prepared to network with professors, researchers, collaborators, and community organizations to advance multi-disciplinary partnerships within and beyond academia.


During the course of employment, the Fellow may have access to restricted information, including data that is sensitive in nature and/or concerning issues of sexual violence. It is imperative that the Fellow keep such information confidential. 

Required Qualifications:
•    PhD in education, sociology, psychology, gender/feminist studies, or a related field
•    At least 5 years of research experience, preferably at a university or post-secondary institution
•    Grant coordination, development, and submission (e.g., funding and ethics applications)
•    Experience editing on team publication projects, and writing and publishing their own work in peer-reviewed academic journals, books, etc.
•    Develop and implement original research projects within the field of sexual violence
•    Ability to conceptualize and mobilize new research projects with partners, co-investigators, and collaborators as opportunities arise
•    Knowledge of qualitative methods and qualitative analysis
•    Strong leadership, mentorship, and supervision abilities
•    Project management experience, and ability to coordinate with a principal investigator and project administrator on hiring research assistants and overseeing project milestones
•    Able to work collaboratively with a team of peers and high-profile academics and partners

Other Qualifications:
•    Experience with quantitative methods and quantitative analysis
•    Knowledge of Lime Survey, SPSS, NVIVO, and other similar software
•    Pedagogical experience, such as developing educational materials, teaching university-level courses, facilitating workshops, and mentoring students
•    Knowledge mobilization experience, such as conference presentations, op-eds, media interviews, community-based programs, etc.
•    Experience working in educational settings and community organizations
•    Experience editing and publishing non-academic reports
•    Advocacy work, especially related to supporting victims/survivors of sexual violence
•    Familiarity with Canadian law and policy (and university sexual violence policies), an asset
•    Fluency in French, an asset

**Salary negotiable: Starting $34,611 up to 50,000
