Position Description:

Beginning May 1, 2024, this two-year position requires the Postdoctoral Fellow to engage in research that (1) advances knowledge about the experiences of students in Indigenous Teacher Education programs, with attention to the educational interventions that can support Indigenous learners to flourish in K-12 and higher education.  The fellowship aims to 2) establish a comprehensive understanding of pedagogical, field experience, and assessment practices, and the Cree principles underlying them, within the Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (ATEP) at the University of Alberta.  It is expected that this fellowship will offer opportunities for recent graduates to build on their doctoral program of research.

You will be supervised by Dr. Evelyn Steinhauer, Associate Dean Indigenous Teacher Education and ATEP Director, and Dr. Jennifer Tupper, Dean. In collaboration and with the guidance of the supervisors, and within the bounds of project mandates, you will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Developing, operationalizing and leading research project plans;
  • Conducting literature searches and reviews;
  • Preparing and submitting ethics applications to the University Research Ethics Board (REB)
  • Collecting primary and secondary data as it relates to the research projects;
  • Co/authoring manuscripts for publication, as well as other forms of research / knowledge dissemination;
  • Writing up research for policy and community stakeholder audiences;
  • Helping to organize project-related events;
  • Offering a number of graduate, undergraduate and community interdisciplinary seminars/lectures to engage the broader community;
  • Contributing more widely to the work of  Indigenous Teacher Education/Faculty of Education;
  • Possibility of teaching opportunities;
  • Other activities as required.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Education (2019 and after) with a focus in one or more of the following areas: Indigenous education; teacher education; wisdom traditions in education; anti-colonial approaches to teaching and learning; curriculum studies. 
  • Effective written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Excellent problem solving skills, flexible and adaptable
  • Strong organizational skills

Location: This position is in person with on-site work taking place at North Campus Edmonton.
