Post-doc position on the neurobiology of epilepsy – Electrophysiology – E. Rossignol lab, Université de Montréal
Location: Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Sainte-Justine (CHUSJ)
Affiliation: Université de Montréal
City: Montreal, QC, Canada
Posting date: April 27th 2022
Deadline: Open until filled
Job Description: Post-doc position on the neurobiology of epilepsy – Electrophysiology
The E. Rossignol lab is looking for a motivated and dynamic post-doctoral candidate to join the Neurobiology of Epilepsy Research program, in the Brain Development and Disease Axis (CHU Sainte-Justine), affiliated with the Neuroscience Department (Université de Montréal).
The Rossignol lab investigates the cellular and network mechanisms of childhood epilepsies and associated neurodevelopmental disorders. Using Next generation Sequencing in patients to identify new genetic causes of the diseases, as well as gene-edited rodent models of these disorders and combinations of genetic, cellular and functional in vitro and in vivo assays, the team addresses how disease mutations in novel candidate genes modify cortical network development and function, in a quest to clarify disease mechanisms and foster new therapeutic development.
With support from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and recent support from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Rossignol lab is expanding its efforts towards translational therapeutic screens and therapeutic development. For this reason, we are seeking a new team member with expertise in patch-clamp electrophysiology/synaptic physiology and/or in vivo recordings to provide important insights on the network perturbations underlying these disorders, while assessing therapeutic outcomes to novel therapies. These studies are the cornerstone of our translational efforts towards future clinical trials.
The CHUSJ is a vibrant academic environment, hosting 210 labs (450 students/trainees) working on various aspects of pediatric diseases and therapeutics. The institution is renowned for its contributions to rare pediatric disorders, personalized medicine, clinical genomics, large–scale studies and translational medicine. The Brain development and disease research group is composed of 50 research labs, including 10 neurobiology labs, with expertise in developmental neurosciences, genetics, electrophysiology, networks and computational neurosciences. The candidate will have the opportunity to interact closely with other labs and will get exposure to an array of techniques relevant to disease modeling and therapeutics. The Neurosciences Department at U. de Montreal is a productive and collaborative milieu, hosting an array of clinical and basic science labs, at the heart of Montreal, a vibrant city, renowned for its long-standing contributions to epilepsy research and Neurosciences.
Minimal requirements : PhD in Neurosciences or Physiology, with training in slice electrophysiology
Application should include : a letter of interest, university transcripts, CV and names of 3 referees
