Position Overview

Medical Instructional Resources in the Cumming School of Medicine is currently seeking a Recurring Part-time Porter - Booking Services.

This position reports to the Director, Educational Operations with accountabilities to the Booking Services Coordinator.

This role is responsible for the successful set-ups at the Foothills Campus, as directed by the Booking Services Coordinator. The role is a recurring part-time hourly position including evening, weekday and weekend shifts. Responsibilities include setting up and taking down furniture such as tables and chairs in various configurations for meetings and events. May act as a backup for the full-time Porter position for vacation coverage.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • To set-up meeting or event functions to the necessary specifications within the agreed timeline
  • Work as part of a team or on an independent basis, this position is required to move tables, chairs, staging equipment etc. according to a pre-determined event plan
  • Required to assist with moving tables/chairs/staging equipment etc. according to a pre-determined plan
  • Extensive labor including lifting tables, organizing chairs and arranging staging will be necessary
  • Communicate and demonstrate customer service internally and with clients for event set-up at various locations

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a similar environment dealing with large functions/shows is desirable
  • High level of physical fitness, and training in proper lifting techniques is preferred - must be capable of lifting up to 70 lbs
  • Grade 12 diploma
  • Previous experience in a client/service environment an asset
  • Able to work well in a team environment but be able to deliver quality set-up services working on own
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Candidates must have a positive attitude and take initiative in responsibilities
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Evidence of working to deadlines
