The Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta invites applications for one full-time, tenure-track/tenured position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Appointments at higher ranks may be considered.

We welcome applications from scholars in polymer science and engineering with experimental and/or computational/theoretical research interests. All contemporary areas of research in polymer science and engineering are of interest. Examples include, but are not limited to, polymer synthesis, polymer rheology, polymer processing, polymer reaction engineering, sustainable polymers, the mechanics and physics of polymers, and the use of polymers in energy systems (e.g., as adsorbents/catalysts) and for bioprocessing, biomanufacturing and medical applications. Interdisciplinary work and collaboration are important in our department, and there are several groups to foster relationships with and who offer seminars for researchers on campus, including Future Energy Systems, Precision Health, AI4Society, Intersections of Gender, and Situated Knowledges: Indigenous Peoples and Place.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in polymer, chemical or materials engineering, or a closely related field. They will also have a record of publication in reputable, peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings as well as research and teaching experience and skills. Candidates with a demonstrated record of service and volunteerism broadly related to their research, teaching, and/or equity, diversity, and inclusivity will be considered. They are expected to be or become a licensed Professional Engineer through the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA, https://www.apega.ca /). Licensure must be obtained within five years from the date of hire. The successful candidate will establish a research program of independent and cooperative research and industry partnerships. They will also teach undergraduate and graduate courses in chemical and/or materials engineering, and contribute to the future of the department and university through service.

The Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering is passionate about the development of innovative solutions for the world’s most pressing issues since our first students graduated in 1928 and we are growing every year. We have a complement of more than 45 faculty members with research covering all major areas of chemical and materials engineering including process systems engineering, surface and interfacial science, thermodynamics, reaction engineering and catalysis, biochemical and biomedical engineering, energy-related materials, and welding and metallurgy.
