Description:

The Planning and Budget Office provides oversight of the University’s operating budget and enrolment planning processes and provides leadership and coordination for the University’s institutional research and data governance functions. The office maintains detailed models providing multi-year projections of enrolments, revenues, and costs, and supports the Vice-President and Provost in setting the University’s budget.

The Planning & Budget Officer is responsible for the collection, analysis, and submission of the official enrolment count and graduation data to the Ministry of Colleges and Universities in support of grant funding for the University of Toronto. You’ll be part of a collaborative and innovative technical team focused on delivering well-defined, transformed, tested, and documented data sets using industry standard tools and languages, such as Python, SAS, and SQL. You’ll conduct institutional research by supplying and processing data (e.g., student information data, enrolment statistics, demographics, etc.). Through your efforts in this position, you’ll develop curated data sets that are used by senior administrative officials at the University for long range planning, program reviews, reporting, and policy development. You’ll also have the opportunity to assist in ad hoc research and analysis projects using institutional data sets.

Qualifications Required 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in quantitative social or physical sciences (e.g. computer science, mathematics, statistics and research methods, economics).  


EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in statistical analysis, demographic analysis, computer assisted analysis, operations research in a university setting or equivalent demonstrated abilities.
  • Experience with researching, analysing, and compiling data sets and/or statistical reports for long range planning and policy development. 
  • Experience with enrolment data and student information systems.  ROSI preferred 
  • Experience working with data owners (e.g. Registrars) to ensure integrity of data within the systems
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel, SAS, Python, and Tableau preferred, or a willingness to attend training


SKILLS:

  • Ability to operate microcomputer spreadsheet, database, word processing and presentation software proficiently.
  • High level analytical ability and superior numerical skills.
  • Good communication skills.  In particular, must be able to translate statistical and analytical results into easily understood terms.
  • Tact and good interpersonal skills.

  • Initiative and sound judgement.
  • Ability to determine priorities and to work independently.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure.
