The Transformative Quantum Technologies (TQT) program at the University of Waterloo has several openings for Postdoctoral Fellowships (PDFs).

These prestigious positions are available immediately and intended for early-career scientists with an advanced degree (PhD). The selected fellow(s) will join the research group of a Principal Investigator through a TQT-funded project, and contribute to the collaborative TQT research community.

Please visit the University of Waterloo website for more information on Postdoctoral positions .

Principal Investigator: Raffi Budakian

Project: Atomic-scale nuclear magnetic resonance diffraction

Relevant Fields: Magnetic resonance, quantum information

Required Skills:

  • The candidate should have a strong background in magnetic resonance. Familiarity with quantum control protocols, such as optimal control theory, is useful, but not required. Experimental background in magnetic resonance or related areas is required.
  • Prior work related to the project:

Role: We are seeking a postdoc-level candidate to be part of a highly-collaborative group to conduct atomic-scale NMR diffraction (NMRd) measurements. The primary goal of the project will be to apply the NMRd technique developed by the Budakian group to demonstrate atomic-scale Fourier encoding. Applications include structure determination of nanocrystalline solids, in particular protein nanocrystals and the study of atomic-scale spin transport in solid-state systems.

Qualifications should include a Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering,  or a related field. The successful candidate will be creative and self-motivated with strong hands-on experimental skills and analytical ability. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment is essential.

Number of Openings: 1

The position is available for one year, with a possibility for renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and funding. Inquiries can be sent to Prof. R. Budakian ([email protected] ). Applications should include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a publication list, and contact information for three references. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

These PDF positions are made possible thanks in part to funding from the Canada First Research Excellence Fund.
