Position Description:
The McGill University Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor (Clinical). The rank will be determined according to the chosen candidates’ qualifications and experience. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.
The successful candidate will join an active and high-volume academic hand and microsurgery practice at the Montreal General Hospital (MGH) site. The MGH is one of the three core teaching sites of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and McGill Plastic Surgery Residency Program, and is one of two level 1 trauma centres serving Greater Montreal. The MGH is a provincial tertiary referral centre for upper extremity, oncologic, traumatic and reconstructive surgery, and the Division serves a wide breath and complexity of patients. There is a high volume of traumatic and elective hand and wrist surgery consultations with both elective and trauma main and minor OR time access, a portable C-arm in the outpatient clinic, and close collaboration with hand therapists.
The MGH is one of McGill major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.
Job Duties:
The successful candidate will be required to service the general plastic surgery consultations and needs of the hospital but will focus on hand and microsurgical reconstruction. Participation in the provincial replantation program will also be highly encouraged. In addition, as a busy orthopedic oncology site, the successful applicant will be involved in local and free flap reconstruction cases, in addition to providing microsurgical expertise for traumatic extremity wounds.
The successful candidate will be involved in the academic activities of the McGill Division of Plastic Surgery and will be expected to demonstrate aptitude in surgical education. McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. Qualifications and Education Requirements:
The candidate must:
Hold an MD degree and have completed specialty training in Plastic Surgery;
Be eligible for licensure in Quebec and certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec
Be board certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) and have completed a fellowship in hand and microsurgery;
Have experience in wrist surgery;
Have completed additional graduate training in the form of an MSc, PhD or a second year of clinical fellowship;
A strong interest in research (clinical, basic science, education, or epidemiology) would be an asset;
Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
