Job Summary
The Master of Land, and Water Systems (MLWS) Research Assistant will conduct research activities based largely on meta-analysis and limited confirmatory field sampling in the Lower Fraser Valley.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Principal Investigator (Dr. Les Lavkulich).  Will work with UBC research team consisting of professors, postdoctoral fellows, graduate and undergraduate students.
Work Performed

  • Conducts original meta- analysis on research topics that form basis of extrapolating research conducted and that which requires verification,
  • Conducts field sampling of soils to confirm and verify field results;
  • Coordinates the preparation and analysis of soil, samples for chemical and physical properties using;
  • Analyzes data and maintains database;
  • Supports the preparation of scientific manuscripts;
  • Reviews and comments on the MLWS student projects, as needed;
  • Performs other duties when necessary.

Incorrect decisions, particularly in the field would likely be costly in terms of wasted time and flawed data

Preferred Qualifications

Education & Experience:  

  • High School Graduation.
  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in agroecology or an agriculture related subject or Masters of Science is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills:

  • Strong verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Must be able to adapt and be flexible.
  • Must have accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Must be physically fit with excellent stamina, able to perform work for extended periods of time in any weather conditions.
  • Computer experience at an intermediate level is required (e.g. MS Word, Excel, Email, Internet)

Must have Class 5 driver’s license.
