Have you recently graduated or will be graduating from a Library science program? This position would be excellent position for a newly graduated library technician or librarian who prefers technical services work with a focus on metadata description.

The Knowledge and Information Services team (K&IS) provides information and data resources, services, tools, systems, and policies which help Bank staff access, utilize, manage, and share quality information to effectively accomplish the Bank’s business goals. K&IS specializes in digital scholarship; digital library and content licensing services; research and reference services; corporate record services; support to end users for the Bank’s document management system; and management of the Bank of Canada Archives.

What you will do
You will support the descriptive cataloguing records housed within the Bank’s integrated library system, its federated search tool, its Data Catalogue and its Research Data Management service. The Bank’s digital library collection encompasses a variety of content types including bibliographic databases, market data, industry information resources, alt data sets, ejournal packages, ebooks, news sources and official statistics.

You will work collaboratively with senior Metadata Specialists and Systems Librarians, to support the creation of original and copy cataloguing records, as well as working to remediate and transform existing metadata descriptions. The Bank’s information and data collection requires metadata records for a variety of content types, including socioeconomic data feeds, research data files, and readme files, and you will be using a variety of information tools and systems which may include Ex Libris Alma, Ex Libris PRIMO, TIND RDM, SpringShare LibGuides, and Symplectic Elements.

What you need to succeed
You are a team player who can work in a collaborative environment and are an effective communicator. You possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills. You continuously deliver excellent attention to detail. You are able to review and assess metadata quality and usability.

You have work or academic knowledge of the following:

Descriptive library cataloguing standards (AACR2, RDA, Dublin Core),
Metadata record encoding standards (MARC, XML, HTML, JSON),
Authority controls and records,
Controlled vocabularies and standardized subject headings (LCSH, RVM, STW Thesaurus for Economics),
International standards for describing numeric data sets (DDI, DataCite)
Persistent Identifiers (ORCID, DOIs)
Integrated library systems or platforms

Nice-to-have

Microsoft SharePoint experience
Knowledge of data and software citation principles

Your education and experience
Library technician college diploma and one year of work experience in an information service-delivery unit as a cataloguer or metadata specialist or a Master’s degree in library science, from an ALA-accredited school or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

What you need to know

Language requirement: English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of functional (level 4) in second official language. Training may be provided to help reach the required level of fully functional (level 5) in second official language. (although the position requires a Level 5 (fully functional) in the second official language, we are open to those with a lower level and may provide training to help the selected candidate reach the required level over time)
Priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents
Security level required: Be eligible to obtain Secret

Hybrid Work Model

The Bank is conducting a trial of a hybrid working model which provides employees with the flexibility to telework for significant portions of each month. During the trial, employees will be expected to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person and to build connections with colleagues. For the majority of employees, it is expected that onsite time will range from 5 to 10 days per month, depending on your role. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.

Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $64,705 to $76,125 (job grade 14)
Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (5 to 7% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (10% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
