The School of Health and Public Safety at SAIT prepares students for a dynamic career in the health care sector. We offer specialized training in diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, professional assistant programs, information management, and training for wellness professionals. Our programs are hands on, with students and instructors immersed in living classrooms and simulated training. 
The Opportunity
The School of Health & Public Safety at SAIT requires an energetic and resourceful individual with great organizational and team work skills to set up laboratories used for student instruction in the Medical Laboratory Assistant and Medical Laboratory Technology Programs. Applicant must understand the medical laboratory professions, disciplines and associated analyzers.
The applicant must also possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and thrive in a team environment. Moderate to advanced level of computer skills such as the ability to use banner, word processing, Excel, the internet and communication software is strongly recommended. Additional educational qualifications are an asset. The applicants must have a somewhat flexible schedule to accommodate the program timetables. The applicant must have a strong ability to negotiate and to work with vendors in the medical laboratory field and with other SAIT personal for purchasing and work with internal personal in shipping and receiving.  
We are hiring a permanent 0.6 FTE Educational Technologist position to work in the Clinical Support Services portfolio.
The Role
    • Collaborate with staff on course needs including supplies, ordering, and set-up for Medical Laboratory Science programs
    • Prepare and implement course lab plans (set-up, support and take-down of labs) 
    • Manage annual medical laboratory equipment maintenance requirements
    • Operate within program supply budgets and maintain inventory control
    • Initiate supply and equipment orders with approval from the Academic Chair
    • Coordinate appropriate disposal of biohazardous wastes and chemicals
    • Manage capital asset inventory and disposals
    • Manage safety data sheets in an online data base for the School
    • Contribute to annual equipment inventory lists
    • Develop and maintain medical laboratory related equipment vendor relations
    • Negotiate quotes for purchasing, and maintenance
    • Contribute in a positive way to maintain a “team environment”
    • Promote professionalism and safety in the workplace
    • Provide feedback for continuous program improvement
    • Participate in program, portfolio, School and SAIT events and meetings
    • Promote and support SAIT and the School of Health and Public Safety mission statements and academic plans
    • Remain current with vendors in the medical laboratory field though contacting partners and vendors.
    • Support other educational technologists in the School of Health and Public Safety 
    • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience
    • Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) Diploma
    • 2 years minimum experience as a certified MLT
    • Eligible to register or registered MLT with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA) and Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS)

    • Skills Required:
    • Fluent in English reading and vocabulary
    • Comfortable speaking to the students and staff
    • Maintain a positive & respectful attitude
    • Basic level of proficiency working in Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook  
    • Ability to read and interpret lab procedures 
    • Experience with technology, including medical laboratory equipment
    • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to build and maintain partnerships with vendors and medical laboratory personal
    • Excellent time management and organizational skills
    • Understanding of tracking SDS online is an asset
    • Understanding Biosafety regulations and WHMIS regulations
