RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. Position summary
Under the supervision of the principal investigator, the Medical Technologist prepares and administers radioactive substances for various clinical trials. The medical technologist will be required to inject radiolabeled substances for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in patients with oncologic and/or neurodegenerative diseases and subsequently perform imaging using a SPECT/CT or PET/CT camera for detecting the distribution of the substance in the human body.

General Duties
• Receives patients, gives them specific instructions and when necessary registers them,
• Performs daily, weekly and monthly quality checks (if not already done) on all equipment and reports dysfunctional equipment and maintenance issues,
• Prepares radioisotopes according to Health Canada’s radiation protection and safety rules,
• Performs quality checks of radioisotopes, when required,
• Maintains adequate records for radioactive inventory and statistical purposes,
• Inserts intravenous catheters and injects isotopes and other substances required for diagnostic procedures,
• Administers radioactive therapeutic substances
• Maintains an inventory of all radioactive products prepared, received and used,
• Performs high quality diagnostic procedures as required by established research protocols,
• Practices sterile techniques and universal precautions of body substance, when necessary,
• Processes study data when required,
• Assists in the training of professional technologists,
• Assists in the training of student technologists,
• Performs other related tasks.


Education / Experience

• College diploma (D.E.C.) with specialization in nuclear medicine technology from a school recognized by the Ministry of Education, Recreation and Sports,


Required Skills

• French and English, spoken and written,
• Member of the ordre des technologues en imagerie médicale, en radio-oncologie et en électrophysiologie médicale du Québec (OTIMROEPMQ),
• Good balance between self-direction and seeking management feedback,
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and French and English.


Additional information

Status: Temporary, part-time occasional
Pay Scale: $23.80 to $44.19. Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: Hours vary on a weekly basis and according to the needs of the principal investigator
Work Site: Royal Victoria Hospital – Glen Site
