Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Marketing and Communications Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the creation and maintenance of media content to support Le James’ marketing strategies as well as the Ecommerce platform. Ensures that the online content is optimized for the best possible user experience across all platforms and coordinates regular updates with Bookstore departments.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assists in content management, content creation, product descriptions, and obtaining images.

  • Prepares  and creates all content for visual banners, Social Media posts, copy and overall messaging throughout all touchpoints with the Manager

  • Maintains the Bookstore web pages and social media with regularly refreshed content.

  • Keeps up to date on all products. Works with all departments to create content based on what is emerging and new.

  • Research what is trending in retail industry with focus on what other University bookstores are doing, as well as what events are happening within McGill and the community.

  • Establishes relationship with vendors to develop cross promotions at key times of the year.

  • Participates in the development of the overall media content plan for the Bookstore.

  • Participates in the development of the Marketing Calendar, Content Calendar – Events (online and live), contests and surveys.

  • Provides online-related feedback to all relevant stakeholders.

  • Interface with other McGill departments for content related issues and opportunities.

  • Plans with the Marketing and Communications Manager to develop an outreach program to other departments to build business and increase exposure.

  • Responsible for online statistics and reporting.


Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:

Extensive knowledge of content creation on current Web Social Media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) Knowledge of Adobe products including Photoshop. Must have a strong knowledge in marketing automation platforms and email marketing services (such as Mailchimp) to manage our mailing list and create email marketing campaigns. Ability to work independently but understands the need for strong interaction with colleagues at the Bookstore to deliver an effective solution. Understanding of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies and implementation. Experience in multi-channel communications. Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Must be bilingual. Must have written communication skills (English and French) at an advanced level.
