Master’s Position Available to Study the Effect of Neural Stem Cell Senescence on Brain Repair – Lindsey Lab, University of Manitoba

Description of the position:

This project uniquely examines the role of cellular senescence in regulating the regenerative capacity of neural stem cells in the aging brain using the adult zebrafish model. The objective of the proposed study is to define which zebrafish neural stem cell populations undergo aging, how this is regulated by changes in cell signaling and gene expression, and how neural stem cell senescence effects timely brain repair following injury. The successful candidate will be directly supervised by Dr. Benjamin Lindsey (expert in neural stem cells and repair in the zebrafish model) and learn cutting edge cell biology, injury models, microscopy and molecular biology techniques. The successful candidate will be admitted to the Human Anatomy and Cell Science graduate program where they will be expected to complete coursework in addition to their thesis based research. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to apply for scholarships to contribute to the annual stipend provided by Lindsey.

  • Interest in neuroscience, brain repair, and microscopy
  • Experience or interest in using animal models
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
